Review the book “Curious Critters" by Patty

crittersI was lucky to be asked to review the book “Curious Critters” by David FitzSimmons. When I opened the package, I immediately fell in love with the cover art. Mr. FitzSimmons has done a wonderful job capturing images of some of the coolest little critters that we share the planet with.  But, there is more to this book than beautiful pictures.

Yours to Discover! by Bronwyn

We're from BC. We're ocean kayakers, rainforest hikers, mountain trekkers, and we know how to camp in the rain.

We moved to Ontario last February, and were horrified to see the summer nearly escape without a family wilderness adventure. Afraid of having our "outdoorsy" status revoked and of being demoted to "frauds with a basement full of gear," we scrambled to plan a trip for the last weekend in September.

Fall gardening: collect seeds

nasturiumfrontIn our family we have collected seeds from vegetables many times, but we have not yet done a real collecting of seeds in the fall. It is one of the activities that I keep planning to do with my kids but I keep forgetting. Collecting seeds are a great activity for kids and adult in the fall and can easily be done at school.

THE WALK OF LIFE : Tips for walking to school

By Emily McBurnie

Each weekday morning I get myself and the 2 kids out the door by 8.30 for the walk to school. It is a 20-30 minute uphill hike or 1 mile (1.6 km) to be precise. I was surprised to see just a handful of mums & dads doing the same journey, most opting to get the kids in the car for the 5 minute drive . Of course there are days when I think it would be handy to be in a vehicle, however once we get on our way, the minor complaint soon fades.
