Family biking and front bike seat :Ibert
By Kari Svenneby
I had a lot of fun biking with my first child on a front bike seat. My daughter loved it and I liked having her in front of me. Today, I’m happy to say she is a wonderful biker thanks in no small part, to her Like-A-Bike and perhaps an early introduction to biking. For our family it is a way of living and we will use the bike as an active mode of transportation to get around in the city. We also enjoy biking just for fun.
Have fun with stones and rocks by the beach
Rock on..
Stones and rocks by the beach offer many activities for kids. I’m sure if you take a trip to the beach you will soon discover kids are naturally drawn to rocks. Whether it is to master the art of skipping rocks or creating rock gardens. One my daughter’s favorite things to do is to collect them. She is always finding some rock worth having in her mind. We will sometimes display them in a shadow box or Mason jar when we come home.
Pick dandelions: Make Dandelion syrup
Dandelions have many secrets. Beyond their reputation as a weed they can be turned into toys for kids and they can be eaten. I have to admit that playing with them and not eating them is how I best know dandelions.
Living on a houseboat
Nature is everywhere; you just have to embrace it
In our outdoor playgroup in Toronto, we explore urban nature. I was lucky to get to know Christie, and her two kids. Even though Christie lives in very urban Amsterdam, she probably lives more in touch with nature than most because she lives on a houseboat in the city. For me this illustrates how close nature can be wherever we are, even in a big urban environment.
This is the beauty with fresh air living. Nature is everywhere; you just have to embrace it.
Make Potions

Summer has finally arrived here in Toronto. Suddenly we are in full summer, after a very cold and rainy spring. Needless to say we have been outside all weekend. Living in a cold weather climate nothing gets us outside like warm weather, enjoying the outdoors, often without any agenda.
Add a commentIn season: Playful artichokes
I’m not going to lie, I did not grow up with artichokes; it wasn’t a common sight at the grocery store in Norway. My first introduction was when I went to culinary school; I learned how to cook them and the art of eating them like a pro.
