Let’s go strawberry picking

By Kari Svenneby

Sure you can get fresh strawberries all year around, but nothing beats the taste of local strawberries in season. It is a sure sign that summer and sunshine is here to stay.

I hope you go to your local Farmer’s Market and find strawberries grown in your area, but why not go to one of the local farms and check out what fresh really means.

Light Picnic dinner: Pita Tuna melt

tunapitafront

In Toronto I’m lucky to live only a 15 minute walk to the beach. So now that the weather has been nice, after school we often jump on our bikes and ride to the beach. Being by the beach is an amusement for old and new.  Today they had fun throwing rocks in the water and making land art.

Everyday life in Scotland

Do you live in an apartment or in a house with a backyard?

A small semi-detached house with a little backyard and small front garden. My garden is my experiment - what I can grow I know local schools will manage the same sort of plants.I have about 70 different native plants and herbs growing there.

Plant tomato plants in an upside down planter

tomatoplantfrontEven though I have a backyard we still like to grow vegetables, herbs and potatoes in containers. It is nice to have edibles close by. Last year I bought two upside down planters to grow tomatoes, but never got a chance to get them started until this spring. So this year we decided to do it for a fun experiment for the family. My daughter thought it was a funny way for plants to grow.
