Post-Blizzard Play

Blizzard and about 2+ feet of snow in central Illinois - means snow days and snow play.  We built an awesome snow tunnel/slide - hoping it will still be there for this weekend's neighborhood play.

Forts and cones and snowmen, oh my!

I have finally found the toy that occupies my 3 year old child for hours!  Snow!  OK - maybe not for hours, but at least for 45 minutes!  She spent most of the time making bootprints and raking the snow so the deer could find their food (read this in a book).  She did pause that action for a bit to ask for a snow ice cream cone.  We get the tiny cones and she scoops up snow (the white kind only) and licks away.  We (read: I) also made a snowman and a snow wall/fort under a tree decorated with popcorn garland and christmas lights that I have yet to take down.  It's our snow patio. We had a snow picnic and left bread for the birds, with the hope that we'll be able to come out and sit behind our snow wall and watch them eat it.  I tried unsuccessfully to upload a photo, so you'll just have to use your imaginations...

Hedgewood Playdate - December TBA

Had a great time at our November playdate - digging worms, bean bag toss, balloon badminton, rock "kerplunk" in the creek - and that was just Lia and I!  Thanks to the folks who brought us snacks - look forward to playing with you soon.  December playdate coming...

Outdoor Games

Outdoor Games is Saturday, Nov. 6 at 11 am at Hedgewood park.  We'll have kites, bowling, bean bag toss, balls, hopscotch, tennis - please join us and bring any other outdoor games that you'd like to share!  We've got a lot of smores left over from the Halloween party and some other snacks too.  Hope to see you!

Feeding the fish and ducks

Had a great time feeding the fish, and the few ducks and geese that were left at the lake.  We've done this almost every week since summer started, and Lia never seems to get tired of it.  Today we had friends join us and we all had fun watching the catfish jump out of the water to catch pieces of bread.  Then we went and did our own jumping at the playground...

Hedgewood Folks! Glad you came!

Hello Hedgewood Families!  I'm glad that you got the flyer - thanks for visiting the site!  The goal here is to get the neighborhood kids of all ages playing together and to use the fantastic outdoor facilities that our neighborhood provides for us.  We've got the Halloween festivities at the end of October, and I'd like to get another playdate on the calendar asap.  Monthly playdates are the goal to start.  For November, I was thinking of trying kite flying and/or a games day at the park (portable bowling, bean bag toss, etc.).  I'd really like input from interested families on what you would like to do and what times/days are typically good for you.  The only guidelines are that we'd like to do at least one outside activity/month.  So add a comment and tell me what you're thinking!

When, where and you are going to meet and weather guidelines, and age group. Meetings at neighborhood park or homes for 0-6 age range. Goal is to get out as much as possible in the winter and of course other seasons but focusing on winter activities as we get closer to that time...
