Painting in the rain....

…just painting in the rain. What a glorious feeling, I’m happy again.

Trail report

There are two ways to play this game: painting with the rain or painting in the rain. You choose. Or, go a little wild and try both. I dare you.

In your pack

Rain
Muddy puddle
Painting paper (watercolor paper works well)
Watercolor paints
Paintbrush

Getting there

Painting in the rain: Next time it rains (or better yet, drizzles), grab a piece of thick paper and a couple paintbrushes. Sit next to a puddle and use the muddy water as paint. Paint a scene or an abstract design. When you’re done, let your muddy masterpiece dry out inside.

Painting in the rain: While still inside, create a lovely watercolor painting. Or an ugly one, whatever strikes your fancy. Take the painting outside and let the rain mix and spread the colors. Depending on how heavy the rain is and how long you hold your painting under the dripping sky, your colors may spread a little or a lot. Try a few seconds at first and then add more time as desired.

Taking it farther

If it is raining too hard to paint outside, collect puddle water in containers and paint indoors.

Use sidewalk chalk and draw up a storm on the driveway or sidewalk. If it isn’t raining, dip the chalk in a puddle for a whole new chalking experience.

Feb 18 outdoor playgroup

We're planning on some snow play tomorrow and hope you can join us.

We are either going to drive up Pine Creek or Suce Creek (depending on the windiness of the day), then ski up the rest of the road to the campground or trailhead.

Anders and I will be skiing, so we'll be plenty slow enough for anyone who wants to walk and pull kids in a sled. We'll bring some buckets/shovels and a sled, too.

If you think you might want to go, email me melynda at melyndacoble dot com and I'll let you know in the morning where we are going. I'm shooting for getting there around 10.

Livingston outdoor playgroup meets Fri

I took a bit of a hiatus over the holidays from the playgroup. I've been getting out a lot with my kids, but lacked the motivation and time to organize a group. That's all over now!

We'll be meeting at the Pine Creek campground tomorrow, Friday January 7 at 10 am. Bring sleds, skis, snowboots, shovels or whatever you want to play in the snow. I'll bring a few buckets and etc.

I imagine my kids will cross-country ski for a very short time, then play. We hope you'll join us!

Drive into the campground, past the trailhead to where the road is no longer passable.  Look for our gold Tundra.

Oct 29 playgroup

We are looking forward to playing at the park tomorrow before the rain (snow?) hits this weekend.

We hope you'll meet us there at 10 to run around the playground. At 10:30 we'll go on a Halloween treasure hunt. Bring a bag to collect goodies!

Oct. 22 outdoor playgroup

Hi gang

This Friday we are going to ZooMontana in Billings. I know it is a little far for a playgroup field trip, but we hope you'll join us.

If you haven't been, it's a great little zoo. Anders could walk the whole thing last year (at 2.5 years). There are animals, of course, but also a botanical park with natural areas throughout. There is a big playpark and barn area/petting zoo. No elephants, giraffes or monkeys, but lots of local animals.

If you are interested in going, email me at melynda at melyndacoble dot com or call 587.9456.

Oct 15 Outdoor Playgroup

We had lots of fun playing in the leaves last week at the outdoor playgroup. I think the kids may have liked jumping in the pile of leaves almost as much as raking them.

I won't be at the park this week, but I hope you still get outside and play.

We'll be at Rocky Creek farms picking out our pumpkins--you are welcome to join us. We'll be there at 10.

Sept 24 outdoor playgroup

It looks to be a beautiful day for tomorrow's playgroup at Sac Park. We'll be there from 10-11 or 11:30.

Hope you can make it!

September 10

Happy September! How did that happen so fast?

I won't be at the park this week since I am taking my mom to Glacier for her 65th birthday. But, I hope you'll go anyway!

I was thinking about trying to set up some field trips for us this fall/winter. Maybe the Rail Link roundhouse (for all those train lovers out there), Wilcoxen ice cream factory, the fire station etc. Let me know if you'd be interested in that. It's not exactly outdoor play, but on those crazy-windy winter days it might be fun.

Aug 27 playgroup

I don't know how summer has been for you, but we have been BUSY. So much fun  crammed into a too-short season.

The boys and I will miss playgroup this week because my sister-in-law and family are in town. We are so excited to see her and her boys!

Deena suggested meeting at G Street park this week. It's at the end of G Street across Fleshman Creek from St Mary's (just in case you didn't know). There is a bridge across the creek and the kids can play in the water.

So, how about you guys meet at G Street park at 10 and have a grand old time splashing around?
