Make heart cupcakes for Valentines Day

We have been so busy lately with school. There has been so many activities and playing outside that we have had little time for baking. One of my 6-year-old daughter’s favorite recipes is making and decorating cupcakes. Yesterday we made heart shaped cupcakes using something out of her toy box.

Have a picnic with ham and cheese horns (crescent rolls)

Last Sunday I visited a Norwegian friend in the Toronto area and we went for a hike and sledding trip. On the trip she served us tasty horns filled with ham and cheese. So yummy! Next time we go for an outdoor adventure we are going make these treats before we hit the trail. These horns are very fun and easy to make with your kids.

Make Snow Ice Cream

Ever tasted snow ice cream before? Not me either until recently. I had heard about it before some of the cartoons on TV.
We had some friends over last Saturday sledding and dinner. Since we just had a bunch of new fallen snow we decided to try to make snow ice cream with the kids.

Make a Hot Chocolate Kit

Who doesn’t love hot chocolate? Whenever my family is out enjoying winter activities we makes sure to have a full thermos with us. This year I am giving my hot chocolate recipe, in kit form, for gifts this year to friends, teachers and outdoor lovers.

It takes an extra step, but I prefer to make hot chocolate from melted semi sweet chocolate chips rather than coco powder. I think it just tastes better than powder.

Winter thermos picnic

It is snowing in Toronto today. Some may think that is proof of the picnic season being officially over. Of course, that is not true for us at Activekidsclub.com and for you. Many of our most memorable picnics have been alfresco, in the snow.

In our outdoor playgroups, the snacks and picnics are a very important part of the gathering. Bringing some good food and some hot chocolate is an important treat after your explorers have a little hike or are just out for some good old fashion play.
