Outdoor Play Birthday Party
This is not a post about the perfect planned party; instead it is about a low key outdoor birthday party. As some of you might know I always do outdoor birthdays for my kids even in the winter, but this summer I was very excited to plan for the first time an outdoor party in the summer, for my daughter’s 2 year birthday party.
Camp food
Last week we went to our old style cottage here in Norway by the Swedish border. Our cottage is about 100 years old and was made by my great grandfather and my kids are the 5th generation who has enjoyed it.It is not a fancy cottage by today’s standards. It has an outhouse, no power, no running water and we have to hike to get to even get to the cabin. The water come from the well and for cooking we are using an old wood stove or we cook over open fire outside.I love to cook on open fire but my kids love it even more. On our last trip we also did fair bit of foraging as well. So much fun outside!

If you have been following us for a while you know that we grow potatoes every year. We have tried different methods every year and this year, we grew potatoes from seed potatoes bought at a nursery to see if we got better results then last year.
Anyway, growing potatoes is a rewarding and fun activity to do with kids, but it also teaches your kids food knowledge. After all, potatoes might be the most used vegetable at the dinner table.

There is nothing wrong with cultivated blueberries, but nothing beats the taste and color of blueberries picked wild in the bush. I still remember the days my parents took me blueberry picking as a child. Now I bring my children to the forest to pick the same low bush blueberries that I picked as a kid.
