Fall

Leaf Shirt

We had some friends over today in our yard, kind of a rescheduling of events because it was raining last Thursday.  We still got outside on Thursday, but we were unable to do this craft. We gathered leaves and then the kids assembled them, along with sticks and whatever else they wanted, on t-shirts.

10 fun rainy day activities

10rainyfrontRecently, a magazine interviewed me about how children deal with being outside in all kinds of weather. The question reminded me that I have yet to meet a child who didn’t love puddles. Fall gardening: collect seeds

nasturiumfrontIn our family we have collected seeds from vegetables many times, but we have not yet done a real collecting of seeds in the fall. It is one of the activities that I keep planning to do with my kids but I keep forgetting. Collecting seeds are a great activity for kids and adult in the fall and can easily be done at school.

Make Fall Scarecrows

fallscarecrowfrontThis weekend we made our garden ready for fall. We planted mums and kale for our garden and decorated our garden with scarecrows. As always we try to keep this fun for the kids. This time we made fall scarecrows out of old kids clothing, and picked leaves in our backyard for to fill our scarecrows with.

Beach Craft from Courtney

Photo_on_2011-09-14_at_19.45I wish I had some action shots, but I was too covered in plaster of paris to take pictures!  We had a wonderful turnout today- 33 people including 2 adorable little sibling additions to the playgroup- our youngest attendee was 6 weeks old!  Today we met at the beach where we collected rocks and shells and other found objects to use in some plaster sand castings.  The kids found some creative things to put in there- a lego, bottle caps, a stray crab leg.
