Local Farm Tour

This year local farms around the Charlotte area hosted their third annual Tour of Farms. Its a great way to introduce city kids to where their food comes from, the important farm to fork connection, and to remind us all the importance of buying local fresh foods. http://knowyourfarms.com/.

Create a backyard playspace

Guest blog by Elizabeth

Kids love to have spaces and structures that are all their own. A treehouse can be a clubhouse, a pirate ship, a gathering place for friends or even just a space to get away from things and relax in private. A swing set can easily become a spaceship in the eyes of a child. With this in mind, spending money on a playhouse or a jungle gym seems like a no-brainer – they get the kids outdoors enjoying physical activities and expanding their minds.

However, there is a way to make these items even more special and bond with your kids at the same time. Instead of buying these items pre-made and manufactured, why not design and build your own in consultation with your children? A playhouse that has the exact window-frames that your child imagined is one they will really cherish.

Skating,Snowmen an Gold Medals

hockeyreflectorLast Sunday I promised my daughter we'd go skating.  There was laundry to do, bathrooms and a kitchen clean and vacuuming to be done.  I was exhausted after doing everything that needed to be done and I asked her if we could maybe go another day.  Her answer was "you promised".  Fair enough. So we got ourselves ready to go just as the big hockey game was starting.

My husband is the big hockey fan in the family.  I'd watched quite a bit of the Olympics and well, I wasn't broken up about missing the game.  Off we went to the rink.

Introducing Kids to Stand-Up Paddling

By Katie Elizabeth

Stand Up Paddleboard

When it comes to kids, “just add water” is a recipe for fun. Kids have a natural love of water, whether they’re playing at the local water park or snorkeling at a tropical resort. Kayaking and surfing provide entertainment for the whole family. But with the discovery of stand-up paddling (SUP for short), you can combine elements of both water activities.
