What will happen when founder of the Freerangekids.com meets Polar Bear Mom to talk about getting kids outdoors?

Norwegian born Kari Svenneby now living in Toronto have let her babies nap outside in the winter, let her kids walk on ice, use knives and to be independent, but she will not let her kids go out the door without wearing safety reflectors.

Your guide to cross country skiing

By Kari Svenneby
I think everyone can enjoy skiing and it is great to do as a family activity. We have enjoyed cross-country skiing as a family since my first-born kid was 2 years old both here in Canada and in Norway. Today my first born is 8 years old and skies almost better then me and I have a 3 year old that is starting to ski now. Though we have yet to put our kids in any formal lessons Canada has a nation-wide cross-country skiing program for children. For children five years of age and younger there is the Bunny Rabbit Program. For children six to nine years of age there is the Jackrabbit Program. Add a comment

Florida style outdoors Christmas

swimmingmanatees1Every year we head south to visit our extended family in Florida. This year it will be our 10th Christmas in Florida. When asking my 7 year old what is our Christmas tradition she said  “Swimming with manatees in Florida.”

Every Christmas Eve, we wake up early and get on a boat to spend the day on the Crystal River with our Florida family. We are up early because the best chance to see manatees is sunrise, especially during the winter months when manatees gather up in Three Sisters Springs to stay warm. This is a protected place warmed by the spring waters constant 22°C (72°F) temperature. According to manatee experts, the best weather for viewing is after a cold front moves through central Florida and the manatees congregate in these warm spring areas.

Cut a Christmas tree and take a photo

Well, it's that time of year. When my first son was little I did bring him in to a studio to get some pictures taken, but once we got a decent camera I decided that I'd take all of their pictures, and we do it outside, of course. My in-laws have a cranberry bog right behind their house which is also a Christmas tree farm (we got our Christmas tree there last year!)  So it's basically one stop shopping for outdoor holiday photography.
