Teaching your kids a swimming culture: swim with your kids

Yesterday my toddler had a wonderful time in the pool. She loved to jump in the pool and even swim a little bit. I talked to another mom teaching her child to swim at the pool. She told she was a swimming instructor and she told me that she wished more parents were swimming with their children before they started swimming lessons, as playing in the water and being comfortable in the water is the first step in learning how to swim. Swimming with your kids: create a swimming culture

GMMy father taught me how to swim when I was 4 years old, I have loved swimming ever since. I grew up with a swimming culture, enjoying a swim in lakes, rivers and the ocean. The summers were used to practice the best strokes and racing among friends and my father. My father (75 years old) who passed away this past winter would swim every day during summer, about 200 meters every day in the local lake or ocean in Norway. In the winter he would swim once a week in an indoor pool, about 1000 meters each time.

Put away the Toys, and Get Outside

By Nancy Ripton
My sons get more toys in a year than I had in my entire life but most of them sit in boxes untouched. The few that they do make time for–Lego and Star Wars–can keep them busy for hours if bedtime is near, but to little to abate mid-day boredom.
