Fresh Air Living

Norway, the daycare generation… But it is outdoors

As some of you know I spent some time this spring in Norway, my native country. I was living there with my children for 2 months because of a sudden death in my family. Growing up in this country brainwashed me with my mantra; No bad weather only bad clothing. It influences my beliefs that fresh air is good for you. That would explain why both my kids have been napping and playing outside in all kinds of weather since they were babies.

Kids + ATVs = Need for Education + Caution

Guest blog by ATVcourse.com
atv-kids-safety-1In 2010, 28,300 children under the age of 16 were taken to hospital emergency rooms after being injured on an ATV. Tragically, 55 of those young riders did not recover from their injuries (statistics from ATVsafety.gov).

ATVs are a lot of fun but they can also be dangerous when operated without the right mix of education and common sense. This is true for all ATV riders, but it is especially the case for children who lack the judgment that comes with years of experience.

How connected are our kids to nature?

Disney
Trips to the zoo, collecting autumn leaves, reading Ranger Rick – sound like memories from your childhood?  If you’re like me, then yes, they do.

But here’s a question: do they sound like a part of your kids’ lives today?

It’s an interesting question we parents should all ask ourselves.

Targeting children with treats

Guestblog by Teach.com
Childhood obesity has become parents’ number one health concern – ahead of smoking and drug abuse.  Because of this we’ve created an infographic about children being targeted by media and advertisers resulting in one in three American children being overweight or obese. In an effort to support the new requirements for nutritional standards unveiled in national school lunch and breakfast programs across our nation by First Lady Michelle Obama and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on January 25, we have created an infographic, “Targeting Children with Treats."
