Playground Hunt - Active Kids Club Outing 1

The inaugural Playground Hunt Active Kids Club outing was lovely! We went to Greenwood Park, opposite the Stone Zoo and bundled up with lots of layers and hats and mittens. It was only about about 35deg F, but the wind was blowing strongly, so that made it c-c-cold. We had a little play on the playground and then went into the forest of theMiddlesex Fells. We walked about 100 yards and stopped to build a fairy house. Then we walked another 200 yards before we turned back. Not bad for a first try :-D

Playing in DeKalb

For those that are interested in getting out in DeKalb County, you can visit our calendar of events:  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DeKalbCountyIL_PlayGroup/

Just a little about us:  we are a young group (only in our 2nd year), but we have over 50 members!  We have a wonderful group of moms that I enjoy hanging out with on a weekly basis.  They have inspired me to be a better parent and I very much enjoy their companionship.

Our goal is to play outside when the weather is decent (above 50 degrees and not rainy).  We usually tour the parks in our county, but we also love hiking in our natural areas.  I can't wait to share some of the upcoming stories with you all.

Hiking With Babes

This is a photo of my daughter hiking the Ice Age Trail in Kettle Moraine State Park in Wisconsin.  We took a family camping trip up there this week.  Kids are great little scientists, exploring their worlds.  I try to teach her about the plants along the trail (like how you should not touch poison ivy) and encourage her to engage with her environment.  She wasn't too happy to meet her first daddy-long leg though....she called it a "scary long leg."

This week we are taking the kids to the beach.  One of the mom's found this RV Resort in our town and they have a swimming "hole."  http://sycamorervresort.com/

Taiga Trekkers

Taiga Trekkers, part of the Anchorage Outdoor Family Network is a great group of active parents in Anchorage, Alaska. We meet up most Thursdays at 10. We have also recently added a once a month family Trek to include working families and spouses. The group started out with hiking with just infants and toddler and we have evolved to bigger kids who want to trek on their own. We certainly aren't sprinting up the trails, we take our time and wait for each other to tend to our children's needs.

Every Day is a play day - The walk to school

I wanted to share our walk to school because it is so not just a walk  to school - it is play and it happens every single day.  So here it is we walk, we talk, we meet up with friends, we explore and we take part in our community.
