Russell Gienapp is a two time Gemini nominated cinematographer based in Toronto, Ontario.
After attending the Southeast Center for Photographic Studies, he worked as a photojournalist (Tampa Tribune and St. Petersburg Times) and commercial photographer for several years. In 1994 he made the transition to cinematography in the documentary film, “Where’s My Chance… Case for Florida’s Children” for PBS about “at risk youth”, in Florida. The film received a regional Emmy.
In the ensuing years Russell has worked as a documentary, drama and commercial Director of Photography. He has traveled the world, from North America, Australia and Europe to Rwanda, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Japan and China shooting award winning documentaries with independent production companies and the National Film Board of Canada, CBC, Channel 5, CTV, Global, Discovery, National Geographic, and PBS.
