Spring

Fairy houses

Spring flowers and buds on trees are coming and legend says with them our little fairy fiends. I know, beacuse my little girl keeps talking about them all the time. She is starting to plan her garden for the fairies. Legend says that if she builds a fairy house in the spring that fairies will come and live in it.

10 spring outdoor ideas

Are you happy spring is here? So am I, love the smell of the earth and to watch the trees bud and the wonderful spring flowers. Nothing wrong about Mister Frost, but I love that is easier to go outside with the kids, less outdoor wear to put on. Spring has some rituals for me and the kids and most of them are connected to the outdoors.

Plant tomato plants in an upside down planter

tomatoplantfrontEven though I have a backyard we still like to grow vegetables, herbs and potatoes in containers. It is nice to have edibles close by. Last year I bought two upside down planters to grow tomatoes, but never got a chance to get them started until this spring. So this year we decided to do it for a fun experiment for the family. My daughter thought it was a funny way for plants to grow.

Make Potions

Summer has finally arrived here in Toronto.  Suddenly we are in full summer, after a very cold and rainy spring. Needless to say we have been outside all weekend.  Living in a cold weather climate nothing gets us outside like warm weather, enjoying the outdoors, often without any agenda.

Geocaching, an urban or rural adventure

I have for a long time wanted to try geocaching with my family. Think of geocaching as a high tech treasure hunt using a GPS instead of a smelly map made of leather with an X drawn on it. It has been an activity that has captured both the young and adult for some time, but there seems to be a surge of treasure hunting with the advent of GPS enabled smartphones.
