Spring

Happy Spring : 13 toys for your toy box

Finally, spring is here. Are you ready for spring in the toy department? I find it handy to have toys easily available for my kids for trips to the park or just for backyard fun. It can be smart to have a dedicated toy box/chest for your outdoor toys so you and the kids know where to find them and where to put them away.

Make a birdhouse

There is definitely spring in the air in Toronto.Our new pets this winter has given us a lot of joy: cardinals, woodpeckers, blue jays, chickadees, morning doves and even a hawk has visited our small urban backyard. It is hard to believe that we live in the fifth largest city in North America when you look out our backyard windows. I’m so happy we finally found a birdfeeder that was squirrel proof and attracted so many different birds.

Make dandelion crowns

How I love spring, and yes, dandelions as well. For me they are a symbol of kids and childhood. Dandelions could be the last flower available in nature, saving kids play in a world where “don’t touch nature”  culture has been taken away from children’s real experiences with nature. A real connection with nature happens from touching, feeling and getting dirty in nature.

Earth day – spring-cleaning

{jcomments on}

How I love spring, especially when you live in a cold climate. You really feel like you are reborn again. There is something special about hearing the birds are back and simply just go out the door without any jacket or layering of clothes. Another thing spring is for me is spring-cleaning in house and out in the backyard.

Grow Sunflowers :5 fun activities

SunflowerGrowing sunflowers is an excellent way to connect children with nature. Planting seeds are easy things for kids to do. Just plant the seeds and just wait and see; they will be astounded on how fast they grow. Sunflowers are rewarding to grow, but also they invite both children and adults to experience the simple lesson of witnessing life spring from a simple seed, a peat pellet and a pot.

Singing in the Rain

April Showers Bring May Flowers. I love the Spring and honestly since having kids I am embracing the rain. I bought my first pair of rainboots after having children. Once you put on a pair of rain boots you can't help but be happy. Rainboots are colourful and shinny with fun shapes. They are a form of personal expression.

When I put on my rainboots I feel like splashing. My son and I walk to school no matter what the weather and we look for opportunties to splash in the puddles. I asked Ronan what he thinks would be fun to do in the rain.
