Outdoor Lanterns
My friend Debra and I had a party 3 years ago in a park in Toronto. Debra used to live in British Columbia and she remembered the wonderful lantern festival there. We invited a few friends with kids for a summer party. It was a gorgeous night and we had so much fun making these magical lanterns together.

Water play
Summer has come early here in Toronto. We have already had super hot days and it is not hard to spot us northerners enjoying the sun. Hitting the beach and pools are great places to go on hot days, but never underestimate the old fashion fun you can have in your backyard with friends from your neighborhood. Or even on a balcony in a high rise. There are lots of water toys that you can buy at the toy store for water play, but you don’t really need special toys to keep cool. Here are few water play ideas.
Make a Fairy House this summer!!
By Mark Forman
Children, parents and grandparents, as well as gardeners and those who care for the environment can all have fun building fairy houses. Constructing these small habitats encourages generational bonding as well as a sense of achievement.
Harvest locally
I’m sure you are like me, loving the return of the barefoot season. Up in the north, I’m growing some my own produce both for joy and educational purpose for our family. I have to say I get quite a thrill out of picking my own produce. Though my yields are never large it is always quite magical to me.

Have fun with stones and rocks by the beach
Rock on..
Stones and rocks by the beach offer many activities for kids. I’m sure if you take a trip to the beach you will soon discover kids are naturally drawn to rocks. Whether it is to master the art of skipping rocks or creating rock gardens. One my daughter’s favorite things to do is to collect them. She is always finding some rock worth having in her mind. We will sometimes display them in a shadow box or Mason jar when we come home.
Beachcombing- the ultimate treasure hunt
A trip to the beach doesn’t just mean sandcastles and swimming. Some of the most fun I have had with my daughter is just walking down the beach doing some good old fashion beachcombing. The best thing about beachcombing is it is the ultimate treasure hunt. The more you look the more you think you will find something better just a little farther down the beach.
