Go fishing in your own backyard

fishingfrontThis week we went to the Toronto Zoo and one of the highlights for our visit was touching the stingrays in the pool. At the Toronto Zoo they have stingrays in a pool and the guests are allowed to touch and feed the stingrays. I also recently told you how Norwegian kids like to catch sand crabs in the summer.

Are you by the sea this summer? Catch some sand crabs

crabfishingfrontWe love to be by the sea; with the smell of the salt water and to swim. It might surprise you, but thanks to the Gulf Stream, the ocean can get quite warm in Norway. If you go to the coast during the summer in Norway, you will notice that kids do not just love to swim and make sand castles there. You will see kids on docks, rocky outcrops and the beach catching sand crabs and proudly creating aquariums for their catch.

Make forts this summer

One of my favorite summer memories happened in my backyard in rural Norway. We had a huge clothesline, when my "mamma" did not hang the laundry, it would become the favorite hangout place for the neighborhood kids. We would hang sheets from the clothesline and create wonderful tents perfect for dress up and tea parties.

6 Tips for Camping with Kids

By Beata Antoszek
Summer is coming and many families are preparing for camping trips. But camping can take on many forms, depending on your preferences and budget. Some people like to keep it simple and go tent camping in the backcountry. Others are into expensive RV’s and long road trips. Some, like my family, like going back to the same place every year. My son Mark is very excited to go to our trailer at Red Bay Park on Bruce Peninsula for our vacation. He missed his friends and the playground there.
